Programme 2007/2008

All Wednesday meetings and Saturday workshops are held at the Bloomfield Centre in Narberth, unless stated otherwise. Wednesday meetings start 7.30 pm and Saturday workshops take place from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. Workshops cost 15 Pounds for members and 20 Pounds for non-members, with the exception of those quoted otherwise. Bookings must be made with Elaine Readman (01437 720827) and a non-returnable 5 Pounds deposit paid for all workshops to secure your place.

Painted rovings and yarn

Sue Hoyland will show us how to paint rovings or hanks of yarn. Just in time to use for the scarf workshop in November!

Felt Jewellery

Lynda Cash will give a talk on her felt jewellery. And if you want to make some yourself, there is a workshop in April!

Scarves - share a skill

Guild members will share techniques and ideas for scarves - knit a Moebius scarf, weave or Nuno felt...

Weds December 12th lunchtime

Christmas lunch at Nant-y-Coy

We will be going out to this lovely cafe in Treffgarne near Haverfordwest. Craft gallery. Light lunches will cost appr. 10 Pounds.  Details to follow. Please book with Elaine.

Bring along the craft books you got for Christmas and liked! Recommendations for the Guild library are always welcome.

Inkle loom weaving

Workshop with Colin Squire who will show us the possibilities of the inkle loom. He will bring several looms, so you can have a go even if you don’t have an inkle loom. Please bring something for a communal lunch.

British wool and the work of the Wool Marketing Board

David Jones from the British Wool Marketing Board will give us a talk and bring some fleece samples of British sheep breeds.

Weaving twills

Three day workshop with Ritta Sinkkonen Davies at her studio in Freystrop. 45 Pounds per person including materials. Max of 7/8 participants.

Weds March 19th

Weaving DVD - Tana Bana - Wisdom of the Loom

We will show the DVD that David and Margaret Redpath brought back from the International Symposium on Natural Dyes in Hyderabad last year, on weaving traditions in Asia and Africa.

Knitting Fair Isle in the Round

Frances will facilitate this workshop. You will have seen her fabulous fair isle sweaters and cardigans, so here is your chance to learn how to make them.

Spinning fancy yarns - share a skill

Bring your fanciest hanks of yarn and show others how to make them.

Felt Jewellery

Make fantastic felt jewellery - to include brooches, necklaces, bracelets - combining wire, beads and stitchery and led by Lynda Cash.

Trip to Wonderwool Wales

Like last year, this trip is free to Guild members. Day trip to the Royal Welsh showground at Builth Wells to indulge in a day of fibres and crafts.

Another opportunity to show us what you’ve been working on and to inspire us with a project for the summer ahead.

Alpaca Spinning Workshop

Led by Joan. Come along and enjoy spinning alpaca.

Visit to the Brecknock Guild

Return visit to Brecon to share things we have made throughout the year and certainly enjoy a lovely lunch!

Wheel & loom maintenance, plus kit making

Share the best tips on how to keep wheels and looms running. We will also be making kits for the summer shows.

Sat 21st June

Midsummer Dyeing

Lesley will introduce us to the secrets of rust dyeing and cyanotype dyeing on fabric. At Lesley's home.

Sun 22nd June

We will demonstrate spinning and weaving at Picton Castle.

Fri/Sat 27th/28th June

Woolfest in Cockermouth

Some of us will be travelling to the Lake district to this by now well established fibre event.

Wed July 16th

Dyeing DVD - Indigo - A World of Blue

We will be showing another of David and Margaret's DVDs - this time on indigo dyeing traditions around the world.

Sat July 19th

Natural Dyeing - Woad

Another great chance to expand your knowledge of natural dyeing. Taking place in Lawrenny, Margaret and David will help us create the wonderful blues of the Celts.

Sun August 10th

Natural Dyeing Fun Day

Bring along dyestuffs and something to dye and we'll see what we can concoct between a group of us. Bettina will facilitate the day at Dyffryn Isaf. Please bring something for a communal lunch. No charge.

Sat/Sun 30th and 31st of August

We will be at the Really Wild Festival in St David's.

Wed September 17th

Knitting to felt - share a skill

Bring along your projects to share and inspire other to try felting knitted bags etc.

Sat September 13th (change of date!)

Spinning and felting primitive sheep breeds' wool

Try out some fibres that you might not have used before. This workshop is also suitable for beginners, both of spinning and felting. Facilitated by Lesley and Bettina.
